James Kelly


James provides risk management services and quantitative analytics to IOR clients.
James joins IOR from Artisan Partners, where he was Quantitative Data Scientist with the Antero Peak Group. In that role, James generated data driven investment insights using modern open-source software.  James also created a proprietary suite of tools to augment all aspects of the discretionary investment process including risk management, security selection, and portfolio optimization. 

Before Artisan Partners, James was a Data Scientist at Weiss Multi-Strategy Advisers. In that role he worked alongside portfolio managers to help manage factor risks and prescribe bespoke hedging solutions to allocate risk efficiently. In addition, he analyzed large, multi-asset class portfolios to identify concentrated risks and provide solutions for more balanced portfolios. 

Earlier in his career, James served as Risk and Portfolio Strategist for the Wake Forest University endowment. In that capacity he advised on all strategic and tactical asset allocation decisions for the Wake Forest Endowment Pool.  In 2013-2014, he was named to AI-CIO’s 40 Under 40 list. 

James earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics and English Literature from college of the Holy Cross, and has completed graduate level coursework on Data Analysis, Machine Learning, and Data Visualization.
